Since 2001, the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps has been working with partners in Southern Africa to provide a psycho-social intervention often missed in traditional aid efforts through outdoor recreation activities that encourage children to have fun and learn. We have designed and developed programs with our partners that have served more than 2,500 youth and trained more than 300 local staff members in Namibia, Malawi, Botswana and South Africa. During programs, children participate in activities such as HIV/AIDS education, environmental conservation, rock climbing, arts and crafts, boating, and game drives. In the context of fun and excitement campers are encouraged to take personal challenges within a supportive community that encourages a sense of hope and possibility. "There is nobody who gives them as much love as I saw them getting here"
- A Director of a program for AIDS Orphans in Botswana.
