What is the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps?

The Association of Hole in the Wall Camps is a nonprofit organization that serves 14 camps all distinctly branded a Hole in the Wall Camp. The Association provides guidance and support to existing and new camps in development through annual conferences, financial grants and standards of excellence we call Hole in the Wall Camp Criteria.

What is the Hole in the Wall Foundation?

The Hole in the Wall Foundation was founded in 2005 to support the work of the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps by raising funds for its programs. Recognizing the global need for empowering programs, the joint mission of the Association and Foundation is to assist in the sustainability of existing Hole in the Wall Camps and to support the development of new camps and programs worldwide; enriching the lives of children affected by serious medical conditions and their families.

What is the difference between the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps and Hole in the Wall Camps?

The Association is the umbrella organization serves the Hole in the Wall Camps. Each camp is a 501(c) (3).

What is Hole in the Wall Gang Camp?

Founded in 1988, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford, CT, was the first camp founded by Paul Newman. The camp continues to offer extraordinary, year-round programs to children and their families.

Are all of your donations divided and dispersed equally among the camps?

A portion of our funding supports the operations of the Association.  Funding is also filtered out the camps by way of the Foundation’s Major Challenge Grants.

What qualifies a child to be accepted at a Hole in the Wall Camp?

Each Hole in the Wall Camp has different recruitment procedures and policies.  The common factor is always the severity of a child’s medical conditions. Visit each camp’s website to learn more about their programs and the children they serve.

What medical conditions do your camps and programs serve?

Our family of camps has the capability of caring for a multitude of medical conditions. Over the last 21 years, our camps have served more than 150 different medical conditions. View a list of conditions served at camp.

What medical precautions are taken for a child with a serious medical condition?

Every camp is staffed with medical professionals and is outfitted with a high-quality medical facility.  Learn more about the medical component of camp.

Can I donate to all camps?

Your support is always appreciated.  Your contribution through the Association can be restricted to our Grants Program; monies that are provided to the camps through this program. However, visit each camp's website to donate direct. Support our growing family camps by making a contribution today.

How can I get involved?

There are many ways to get involved whether it be volunteering, joining our TEAM fundraising initiative or sponsoring a global program, there are various ways to make a difference in a child’s life. Does the Association or its member camps finance travel costs for campers?

We understand that every camper and family has a unique situation. Please visit each camp’s site to better understand their process.

Does the Association or its member camps finance travel costs for volunteers?

As a nonprofit organization, our focus, first and foremost, is on funding programs.  Although we would like to help, the Association and the camps are not able to finance travel costs for volunteers. Other than getting to camp, volunteers are not responsible for any other costs while volunteering at camp.

How are the camps free of charge?  What is included in this?

All Hole in the Wall Camps, programs and global partnerships are free of charge to the campers and their families thanks to the generosity of our donors, corporations and organizations. Children attend our camps or programs at no cost. Housing, meals, activities and medical care are all covered by each camp.
